PowerBI Integration

We are excited to announce a new integration with Microsoft’s Power BI. Power BI is the leading business analytics tool in the market. The integration will allow Administrators to access rich IdeaScale data within Power BI.  The integration will come with a pre-built set of dashboards, but Administrators will also be able to slice their data and make their additional reports in Power BI. Your data will be available in Power BI Desktop and the SaaS Power BI offering. Please note: in order to utilize this integration you will need to subscribe to Power BI (Desktop or Service).

What is the value/why did we make this change?

Our clients have an insatiable appetite for reports; we thought we could help satisfy that need by leveraging Power BI’s awesome reporting capabilities.

What will it look like?

What do I need to do to make this work in my community today/when it is released?

We are still hard at work on this integration and are expecting this to be available to clients in April.

Idea Portfolio Enhancements

What is the value/why did we make this change?

We spent the month of January laser focused on making enhancements to our Idea Portfolio. We think the Idea Portfolio grants Moderators a great method of digesting, sorting, and tagging all ideas that have been submitted. We hope that these changes will only enhance those capabilities. Here’s a recap of the highlights:

Separate Incoming Moderation from Idea Portfolio
You’ll notice that Incoming Moderation and Idea Portfolio now each have their own menu items on Moderator’s dropdown.  This will allow easier and more direct access to these panels.

Saved Search Queries
Once you’ve searched a query in the Idea Portfolio you can save it for ease of deployment next time.  Simply hit the small bookmark icon. This will allow your moderators to save their most frequently used searches. These searches are saved for individual Moderators, not globally.  To unsave the Search, simply click the blue bookmark and the search will be removed.

Idea Number Column
We’ve heard from a number of users about how much they utilize their Idea Numbers.  For those users we have added column to the Idea Portfolio that allows users to easily find their ideas. We’ve also added a corresponding pre-configured search that will allow Moderators to call up one or many Idea Numbers at any one time.

Export Ideas
For those users that want to export some or all ideas in their Idea Portfolio we’ve added an Excel or CSV export directly from the Idea Portfolio. Use a Search to segment your ideas, then output your selected ideas. Files are saved in the Export Folder using the search titles that manifested the results.

Assign Owner
A new action available to Moderators is to Assign Owners within the Idea Portfolio Action dropdown.

New Search Queries
In the Idea Portfolio Search field, we’ve added a handful of queries within the Idea Portfolio for:

Pending Ideas (Presents ideas still awaiting Moderator approval)

Implemented (Shows all ideas in the stages you’ve marked as Implemented stages)

Selected (Shows all ideas in the stages you’ve marked as Selected stages)

Idea Number (Pull up one more many Idea Numbers using this syntax)

Stage Function (Pulls up all ideas in a particular stage type, regardless of campaign or funnel).

Options: Pending, Recycled, Off Topic and Archived Ideas
Lastly, we’ve added an option to include or exclude your Pending, Recycled, Off-Topic or Archived Ideas in your Idea Portfolio searches. You can find these options once you click the Gear Icon ⚙️.

What do I need to do to make this work in my community today/when it is released?

Nothing to activate. You’ll find all of these features available now in your Idea Portfolio.

Submit Via Email

We’re pleased to announce we are launching a new feature that will allow Members to submit their draft ideas directly via our new feature. Each community will have an assigned email address. Members can then email their ideas directly to the community.  Provided the members’ are using a registered email address then each idea will be queued up as Drafts for members individually.  We will send reminders to encourage members to go complete their Drafts.

What is the value/why did we make this change?

We want to collect ideas whenever and wherever they come up.  We want as little friction as possible for ideas to make their way into the community. We hope that this feature will encourage members to submit more ideas!

What do I need to do to make this work in my community today/when it is released?

Your account manager can help you assign an email address for your community. This feature will be slated to be released in March.

Rename Title and Description Per Campaign

Last year we added a new enhancement that will allow your Administrators to change their Idea Submission forms on a per campaign basis.  This Winter we will be adding the ability to not only change the form but also rename the Title and Description fields when setting up a campaign.

What will it look like?

What is the value/why did we make this change?

We wanted to give Administrators flexibility to change verbiage on a per campaign basis.

What do I need to do to make this work in my community today/when it is released?

To change the verbiage go into your Campaign Set Up > Idea Submission Tool, and adjust directly from this form.  This feature will be launched in April.

Tags Tab

We are adding a new Tab on the front end sorting bar dedicated to Tags.  This new Tab will show all of the Tags in your community along with the number of times the Tag has been used on ideas. Clicking any Tag will segment and show the ideas that have that specific tag. Once a Tag has been selected you can easily subscribe (or unsubscribe) from receiving notifications as new ideas are tagged.  This will replace the sidebar module “What we’re discussing.” Moderators will be able to also track Moderator Tags from this same tab as well.

What will it look like?

What is the value/why did we make this change?

We are hoping that giving some added visibility to what members are tagging (and in turn what they are discussing) will help surface themes within the suggestions.

What do I need to do to make this work in my community today/when it is released?

This feature will be released in April. Nothing to activate in your community, if your community utilizes tags this feature will be on by default.

Additional Updates

Forced Private Submission

We have added a new enhancement to our Private Submission feature.  Now an Administrator can set their Campaign to only allow for Private Submissions. Once submitted private ideas are available to Administrators and Moderators only. Previously we have allowed Members to opt-in to submit privately, once Forced Private Submission is on there will be no toggle, all ideas will be private.

What is the value/why did we make this change?
We think the value here is to clients that are hosting black-box challenges, that want ideas to be kept private from other members

Available now, simply toggle in your Campaign > Basic Settings.

My Tab > Private Ideas Tab

To go along with the Force Private Submission change we have also added a new Tab available for Administrators and Moderators called Private Ideas. This Tab will be available under the My Tab for Administrators and Moderators only and will allow these privileged members to view Private Ideas submitted.

What is the value/why did we make this change?
Moderators can view their private ideas in Incoming and Idea Portfolio but Administrators had no ability to view those ideas.  We are now giving those Administrators access to view right from the front of the community.

Did You Know?

Stage Task Reminders

Did you know Moderators can send Stage Task Reminders for any Member that has not completed their Refinement, Estimate, Pairwise, Assessment, Reviewscale or Fund tasks? Find this feature in the Incoming or Idea Portfolio Moderate button. An email will then be triggered and sent to those members that still have pending Reviews, Refinements, Assessments, etc.  Please note: Reminders are sent for single specific ideas not for ideas en masse.

Community Task Notifications

Did you know you can automate tasks (like Reviews, Refinements, Assessments) by utilizing the Community Tasks Notifications email?  As an Administrator you can set up the default digest frequency. Turn this on in Emails and Notifications > Community Tasks Notifications.
